Choosing a second-hand vehicle in PNG.
Whether you are comparing a car already in Papua New Guinea or considering an import from Japan, start with the same three questions.
Does it suit your roads?
Think about passenger space, luggage or work loads, the roads you use and where you will service the vehicle. Discuss ground clearance, fuel use and local parts availability for the specific model. A larger vehicle is not automatically the better fit.
Ask for the vehicle identity, recorded mileage, condition notes and available service history. Compare an auction sheet with the photos and ask about repair history or unclear markings. A familiar brand or a single grade cannot replace those checks.
A car listed in Japan and a vehicle ready for collection in Port Moresby are at different stages of the journey. Compare the total agreed cost in kina, including shipping and local charges, and ask which costs are excluded or still estimates.
